Briefing: Improving Housing Choice Options for Families

One of the key activities of the HUD + Higher Ed Engagement Network is to provide briefings that offer ideas and resources for campuses to implement and grow programming in partnership with HUD Field Offices.

In the first briefing, we worked to connect campuses in key communities with HUD Field Offices to address a key issue: improving the number of landlords who accept affordable housing vouchers. As part of this, we encouraged campuses located in priority communities in Connecticut, Louisiana, New York, Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, and Washington to complete a survey to share thoughts, interests, and current approaches. Read the briefing >

What's next for the Think Tank

hud think tank meeting in zoom

Briefings are compiled from brainstorming sessions led by the HUD + Higher Ed Think Tank,  a group of strategic leaders with broad experience across higher education and public policy.

In their next meeting, the Think Tank will be brainstorming ways campuses can partner with HUD Field Offices to narrow the digital divide for families and residents in HUD-assisted housing. The group will also explore pathways for models for how higher-education can partner with HUD and local housing authorities to provide housing for students coming from foster care. Worker empowerment programs are also on the agenda, and the think tank will hear from HUD leaders on how they are working with local training and education providers to provide resident training programs.
