(AUSTIN) – Texas Campus Compact, an Austin-based statewide non-profit organization, hosted by The University of Texas System, promoting service learning and civic engagement on higher education campuses and in communities, has announced the board of directors and advisory council that will serve during the 2010-11 academic year. This year, Dr. Steve Kinslow, President and CEO of the Austin Community College District, is serving as board chair, with Dr. George Wright, President of Prairie View A&M University, serving as vice chair, and Dr. Cary Israel, President of Collin College, serving as treasurer. In addition, five other presidents of Texas colleges or universities sit on this year’s edition of the board, including:
- Dr. Juliet Garcia, President, University of Texas at Brownsville & Texas Southmost College
- Dr. Bill Holda, President, Kilgore College
- Dr. Katherine Persson, President, Lone Star College - Kingwood
- Dr. John Ellis Price, President, University of North Texas at Dallas
- Dr. Jake Schrum, President, Southwestern University
“Our board of directors is comprised of some of the finest educators in the nation -- all of who understand and value how service learning and civic engagement is helping to 'close the gaps' of educational inequity in Texas,” said Patricia Spencer Potyka, executive director of Texas Campus Compact. “Dr. Kinslow, who has tremendously impacted the Austin Community College District during his tenure there, is a strategic and strong leader who will lead Texas Campus Compact to exciting new heights in its second decade.” This year, the Texas Campus Compact advisory council is comprised of 21 individuals, from all parts of the state, with additional expertise and investment in service learning.
