From the president

Stella Morris has been a voice for civic engagement since she arrived at Rollins College as a first-year student in 2022. From organizing voter registration drives to moderating campus conversations on current events and issues, she translates her commitment to democracy and the democratic process into action, inspiring others to follow her example of involvement and service. In addition to her work with our nonpartisan Democracy Project, she has reinvigorated Rollins College Democrats, the student organization dedicated to helping the Democratic Party. Her community engagement also extends into arts and culture through her role as an officer of the Rollins Museum of Art Student Council. Stella’s portfolio of community-based service is impressive and inspiring, and she elevates every enterprise in which she participates.

Personal Statement

I joined the Rollins College Democracy Project (DP) during the orientation week of my freshman year. I felt passionately about the importance of energizing my generation and engaging civically. I have been interested in civic youth engagement since middle school, but never had the right outlet to pursue doing more. When I arrived at college, I found that opportunity through DP. In that time, I helped run a dozen+ voter registration drives, held collaborative dialogues between experts and students to engage the campus community, made deep and meaningful connections, and ultimately felt like I was making a difference. I take pride every time someone signs their name on a voter registration sheet because it is tangible evidence of democracy at work. Another opportunity that arose during my first semester of college was that there was not an active chapter of Campus Democrats. I took it upon myself to revive the organization and have been president for the past 18 months. As the only American in my family, I feel strongly about civic education and using your vote for positive change, and I believe that young people, especially on college campuses, should engage with the government however they can.
