Personal Statement
Ever since I was young, I have been involved in politics and understanding how the government works. My parents preached the importance of voting, and the fact that I can make real change through my vote. I was taken to a variety of political rallies which spurred me to educate myself on political candidates. Through my experiences, I also began to promote voting across campus. With the percentage of people from 18-29 who do not vote, I have been inspired to educate others on the importance of their vote. I was chosen as a key speaker for an event on campus to motivate my peers to vote as well as to be educated on the politicians in office. I am in the Student Senate, therefore, my vote aids a better campus for staff, students, and faculty alike. Through this opportunity, I have been able to show the importance of voting and its direct impacts on campus and the community. I am also involved in the legislature surrounding voter ID laws and the inaccessibility of registering to vote in certain areas in Illinois.
