Personal Statement
The loss of my uncle and friend sparked my interest in supporting mental health within my community. This passion led me to establish a mental health organization during my senior year of high school, a project that continues to thrive. Engaging in the Defiance College Service Leadership program has provided me with opportunities to contribute to various community initiatives, each contributing to positive change in its unique way. Through these experiences, I have gained a profound appreciation for the significance of mental health and emotional resilience in daily life, motivating me to delve deeper into these subjects through my academics. As a member of an international travel and experience group at Defiance College, I eagerly look forward to our upcoming trip to Belize. This journey will not only expand my understanding of the human mind and body through psychology studies but also offer valuable experiential learning opportunities in Belize. Our research project in Belize will involve collaborating with local students to raise awareness about mental health, emotional resilience, substance abuse, and English language education. This endeavor presents a remarkable chance to enhance my knowledge and insights into the critical importance of mental well-being and emotional strength in today's societies.
