Personal Statement
As a volunteer at my university's Center for African Peace and Conflict Resolution, I helped greet many dignitaries, scholars, and leaders from all over Africa. Over the course of my following semesters, I participated in various international programs that actively encouraged my involvement in global engagement. I was able to identify the root causes of social issues, such as the need for more communal engagement amidst growing animosity and hostility towards other demographics. For example, I believe that the reason we are seeing such widespread discrimination toward Asian Americans is because of a lack of understanding and general ignorance perpetuated by hysteria. My interest is in being locally engaged to promote cultural understanding; therefore, I became more involved with and an assistant to the Jinan-Sacramento Sister Cities Corporation where I used my talents to help foster cross-cultural connections and promote cultural exchanges between our local Chinese communities and the greater Sacramento region. I routinely engaged with multinational relations in the local area and helped build my portfolio as someone who improves public perception by promoting communal engagement between diaspora and parent communities.
