Personal Statement
Post-pandemic, many found themselves in echo chambers that mentally barred them from conversing with those with whom they disagreed, culminating in events like January 6th. This has made me realize that work must be done to bridge these partisan gaps in order to safeguard democracy, largely by teaching individuals how to engage in political conversation and collaboration. Inspired by my participation in and work with Civic Synergy, an organization that teaches young leaders how to create bipartisan policy solutions, I worked with the Hanley Democracy Center to bring Civic Synergy to UM, teaching our campus leaders to be more collaborative. Recognizing that empowering communities with collaboration skills fosters necessary solutions, I plan to attend law school, specializing in electoral law to leverage community unity for collective issue resolution within Congress.
