From the president
Ella McKanna (she/her) is a junior majoring in Social Relations and Policy and Psychology. After graduation, she plans to attend law school to have a more hands-on role in how the legal system affects the world around us. Her current ambitions are to increase community involvement within her own neighborhood and government, and she is beyond excited to begin work within the Community Engagement Scholars Program to help pursue those goals! Outside of the classroom, she is a captain for the MSU Mock Trial team and on the E-Board for the MSU Philosophy Club. Due to her experience within those organizations, she has gained strong leadership capabilities and furthered her desire to help bring communities together.
Personal Statement
I am more than equipped to handle the expectations, requirements, and potential of being a Newman Fellow. I strongly desire to progress in public service, leadership, and community work. I have leadership experience in multiple formats, including Vice Chair for the Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force with the Michigan Secretary of State, a captain for MSU Mock Trial, and Secretary of the Philosophy Club. I have consistently worked within my community by interning with the META Peace team, taking a fellowship with the Campus Vote Project, and being a Community Engagement Scholar. Throughout my entire academic career, I have been working towards professional development and community engagement. I am proud to be both a member and leader within the MSU community, and I would be happy to represent our school within the Newman Civic Fellowship. The ability to connect with other fellows, progress my professional learning, and work with a local mentor would be a wonderful experience and one I would take very seriously. I appreciate your consideration for this nomination, and I hope to represent our community with this fellowship next year.
