The MCC Census Team participated in over 15 events and collected 1000+ signed pledges of individuals who committed to complete the 2020 Census. Through Andrea's leadership and mentorship, she involved more than 45 students in this project. Andrea will continue to search for needs in the community and encourage other students to be civically engaged.
Personal Statement
Mahatma Gandhi's quote, "Be the change you want to see in the world," has been a guiding theme during my tenure at Mesa Community College (MCC). I reflect on this quote as I serve tirelessly at the college and in the community. As a first generation minority female college student, I have first-hand experience of the insufficient knowledge and support that is available to individuals like myself. I was fortunate to get connected early on with programs and resources that propelled my college experience. As a result, I have rendered hundreds of hours of service to individuals like myself to ensure they are successful in college.
After serving as a First-Year Experience Ambassador, I created the Thunderbird Mentoring Program to assist incoming high school seniors to successfully transition to college. These experiences coupled with my leadership positions have been a platform which allowed me to use my voice on issues that I am passionate about as well as honed my leadership skills. I will continue to strive to be the change I want to see in the world.
