Recently, the International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE), commemorated the Anti-Racist Community Engagement Research Group with its 2023 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. The award is given each year to those whose work has introduced studies that deepen levels of understanding of community engagement and service learning.
Members of the Anti-Racist Community Engagement Research Group include Christina Santana, Roopika Risam, Aldo Garcia-Guevara, Joseph Krupczynski, Cynthia Lynch, John Reiff, Cindy Vincent, and Elaine Ward. As a group, they serve as Campus Compact’s Equity and Inclusion writing fellows and editors for the latest Campus Compact publication, Anti-Racist Community Engagement: Principles and Practices, which explores the integration of anti-racist principles within higher education’s community engagement initiatives, extending their impact beyond college campuses.
Over the last four years, these researchers have strengthened DEI efforts in various ways within the field and established guiding principles for Anti-Racist Community Engaged Pedagogy. They’ve also organized two national symposia and conducted workshops, webinars, and discussions to enhance and integrate anti-racist approaches within the SLCE field.
As part of their ongoing fellowship with Campus Compact, the group continues to leverage their expertise to create tools and resources that support anti-racist community engagement work, including its upcoming Virtual Speaker & Workshop Series.
For the next session (November 8, 2023, from 4 P.M. to 5 P.M. EST), join us as faculty and graduate student authors to share their reflections on the historical roots of systemic racism and their work within communities to highlight remembering, healing, and strategizing.
