From the president
Sydney Bui, a third-year at the University of San Diego (USD), is an engaged and diligent leader committed to bridging divides, creating equitable communities across San Diego, and tackling some of humanity's urgent challenges. Through the University of San Diego's #CaliforniansForAll College Corps Fellowship Program, Sydney is exposed to issues of climate change, food insecurity, and K-12 education with her placement at the Port of San Diego, leadership training, and community service efforts. In partnership with the Mulvaney Center at USD, her passion for K-12 education is taking fruition within her collaboration with the San Diego County of Education in bridging the gaps between secondary education and postsecondary opportunities for students in low-income, diverse communities. As a program advocate within the Linda Vista Innovation Lab, Sydney is working to collaborate with partners from the University of San Diego to build programs suitable for all students. All of Sydney's current efforts are beginning to plant seeds that will create lasting change. She hopes to develop strong models of equitable education, so no student feels disadvantaged when working towards a prosperous future.
Personal Statement
Gaining first-hand exposure to the reality that education is not a guarantee for many people around the world, I have found a deep passion for learning how I may be able to contribute to the development of sustainable and educational models within San Diego. In partnership with the Mulvaney Center at USD, my passion for K-12 education is taking fruition within my partnership with the San Diego County of Education in bridging the gaps between secondary education and postsecondary opportunities for students in low-income, diverse communities. As a program advocate within the Linda Vista Innovation Lab, I am working towards bringing partners from the University of San Diego together in collaboration to build programs suitable for all students within the 42 districts we serve. Through implementing an Engineering and Architecture Academy, innovating a social change education that grants exposure to public service, and working to address food insecurity within families and offering sustainability programs, we are just beginning to plant seeds that will create lasting change. My hope is to bring together people to continue to ideate innovative strategies in education both in the United States and internationally within developing countries through U.S. foreign partnerships and interests.
