Sam’s generosity and kindness have touched many people on and off the UM campus, from participating in Alternative Break service trips focused on conservation to lending a thoughtful voice to group discussions regarding social issues, and so much more. For those that know Sam, they know their environmental conscience, willingness to stand for what's right, and humility are some of their trademark qualities. Sam is always looking for opportunities to help their community and is serious about making a difference. They hope to work for non-profits that share their same aspiration for a healthier world after graduating.
Personal Statement
Ecological issues such as climate change, air pollution, and water pollution threaten not only the immediate health of humanity, but the future health of all kinds of life. I began to appreciate the magnitude of these problems in high school. However, these issues are so large that it can be difficult to know where I should begin to address them. I started by joining my high school’s environmental advocacy club. I continue to join and support different groups that make the world a healthier place for both humans and non-humans alike. My mission is to help create a world where humans can live a lifestyle that is healthy for both themselves and the planet. Once I graduate university, I plan to work for non-profits who share my same aspiration for a healthier world. I plan to graduate with a B.A. in philosophy and M.A. in environmental philosophy because I believe that these degrees will provide me with the tools to think, speak, and act in a way that will allow me to achieve my mission.
