All three are participants in the Engaged Scholars Initiative, a program being piloted in three regions across the country that convenes faculty and community engagement professionals from diverse backgrounds to build community and advance the work across the field. • Tyanna McLauren
  Assistant Director of Service Learning, Marquette University
  Midwest Engaged Scholars Initiative
  Tyanna identifies as a Black woman with many passions and skills. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies from Marquette University (MU). While a student at Marquette, Tyanna worked for the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee for 5 years in roles ranging from volunteer mentoring to youth program coordination. After graduation, Tyanna served in two AmeriCorps Programs-Public Allies and Local Initiative Support Corporation (LISC) working with youth and assisting with community development efforts. She also served two terms as a Health, Water, and Sanitation Volunteer with the U.S. Peace Corps in Ghana, West Africa. Tyanna is the Assistant Director of Service Learning at Marquette University. She is responsible for developing new community partnerships, maintaining relationships with 100+ community partners, managing a student leader staff, and helping faculty and local organizations work towards mutually beneficial partnerships. Tyanna co-leads a dynamic reflection series creating space for service-learning students to critically reflect on their coursework and service. She also serves on the Diversity Advocates Committee at MU, co-developing curriculum and facilitating sessions with MU faculty and staff on diversity and inclusion issues. Tyanna is also pursuing a graduate degree in Student Affairs in Higher Education. Her interests include community engagement, multicultural student affairs, and in- ternational education/study abroad programming. In addition to her work at MU, Tyanna remains active in the Milwaukee community. She is a Community Outreach Coordinator with the Black Lens Program, a cultural pillar of a national film organization, Milwaukee Film. When time permits, Tyanna supports pregnant women as a birth doula, helps facilitate youth programs, and other local projects focused on building a positive narrative of Milwaukee.

• Jennifer Rosales
  Executive Director, Center for Engaged Pedagogy at Barnard College
  Eastern Region Engaged Scholars Initiative
  Jennifer Rosales recently joined Barnard College as the Executive Director of the Center for Engaged Pedagogy. Previously, she was the Director of Research and Evaluation at the Center for Social Justice Research at Georgetown University, Teaching and Service. At the CSJ, she conducted research on social justice issues, arts, and education and supported faculty and student research in these areas. She worked with faculty across the university and abroad on grant-funded research about education and community engagement. She is conducting research on social and emotional learning and arts education in DC Public Schools and co-authoring a book Media Literacy of the Oppressed: Designing at the Margins (Routledge forthcoming). In addition, she led the evaluation plan, implementation and analysis for the various community engagement programs. She taught Research Methods for Justice and Peace Studies and co-taught courses on qualitative field research and evaluation. She is part of Campus Compact’s 2019-2020 Engaged Scholars Initiative. She earned her PhD, MA (Media Studies), and BA (History) from the University of Southern California.

• Michael Humphrey
  Assistant Professor at Colorado State University‘s Journalism and Media Communication Department
  Western Region Engaged Scholars Initiative
  Humphrey researches how life stories emerge on social media. He attended William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. – where he earned his B.A. in Communication and Philosophy. Before receiving his M.A. in Magazine Journalism at New York University, Humphrey wrote feature stories for The Kansas City Star and founded 1000 Stories, a life story writing program sponsored by KC metro area libraries that reached more than 2,000 adult students. Following that, he perused his Ph.D. in Public Communication & Technology at CSU and now teaches Digital Storytelling & Audience Engagement, Entrepreneurial Journalism and Analytics in the Department of Journalism and Media Communication. This summer he was a Visiting Scholar at the Oxford Centre for Life Writing, where he studied the works of Italian philosopher Adriana Cavarero. Michael lives in Fort Collins with his partner Lorie Humphrey, a career counselor at the CSU College of Business.
