Campus Compact is excited to announce that we have convened a Campus Museums of Service Design team to help move forward our work in partnership with the National Museum and Center for Service. The design team consists of individuals representing campuses across the country and will be responsible for envisioning how to establish Campus Museums of Service at colleges and universities across the country.
The Campus Museums of Service initiative is undertaken in partnership with the National Museum and Center for Service, a forthcoming Washington, DC museum intended to tell stories of service in all its forms.
Campus Museums of Service will serve as satellites to the larger museum and will consist of exhibits and dedicated spaces on college and university campuses that highlight the legacy and service of the faculty, students, and staff from within their communities. The formation of the Campus Museums will be coupled with the development of the overall National Museum and other partnership efforts in K-12, libraries, and civic organizations across the country.
"In every institution of higher education, students, alums, faculty, and staff engage in countless forms of service to their communities, the nation, and the world,” said Brian Baird. Those stories deserve and need to be told to inspire and connect others with how they too can make a difference. The good news is, every campus already has the talent and resources to create engaging and impactful exhibitions that will enhance enrollments, encourage development efforts, and advance the educational mission."
The Campus Museums of Service Design Team will ultimately help create systems, toolkits, and resources that will be available for higher education institutions across the country.
