From the president
Yash Jani, a junior Neuroscience major with minors in Business Administration and Chemistry, is committed to helping address unmet health care needs in the community. He is deeply invested in his home community in southwest Georgia, where he has volunteered at health fairs and hospitals. While still in high school, Yash founded a non-profit organization, Ray of Hope Foundation for Grieving Children. He has worked with community members and local hospitals to extend the impact of Ray of Hope to several locations. His next goal is to expand this foundation to support children across the state of Georgia. Successful expansion increases capacity at the local level in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of children who are experiencing great loss.
Personal Statement
My passion for serving at the grassroots level and making a positive impact in my community has driven me to various community service and research initiatives. One of my proudest achievements is founding the Ray of Hope Foundation for Grieving Children, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides bereavement resources for families in Southwest Georgia. Through my leadership and fundraising efforts, I have been able to raise over $24,000 to support families facing difficult times and expanded this resource to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Americus, Ga as well as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. I have also had the opportunity to gain extensive experience in the field of biomedical and cancer research through various programs and initiatives. My research endeavors include cloning of F5 Exon 13 deletional variants for Pediatric Hemophilia to analyzation of heavy metal toxicity on renal functionality. My passion for serving others, combined with my experience as a student researcher, has allowed me to develop a unique skill-set and foundation that will aid me in my journey to become a physician and meet the unmet healthcare needs for Georgia and its residents.
