Personal Statement

To address the issues of marginalized student populations, we must celebrate their accomplishments, ideals, and culture. It is important to value and give them visibility. As a first-generation Latina, my early experiences have made me realize how meaningful it is to celebrate my cultural elements, uphold them, and inspire others. My objective is to shift the stigmas around first generation college students and create impactful change within my campus community. Hearing many students with stories like mine have fueled my passion to be a fierce advocate. Communities hold power and can affect positive change for our future generations. May we not disregard the greatness that underrepresented communities bring. My experiences have proved firsthand that a united and equitable community can bring about outstanding changes.

I currently serve as the President of the first and only multicultural sorority at Ferris State University, Chi Epsilon chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. I have also served as a Founding Member of the United Greek Council at Ferris State University and work collaboratively with other organizations to support and advocate for our multicultural students. Through the Promesa Scholars program, I serve as a mentor and hope to empower other Latina students.
