From the president

Jocelyn Auxier, a freshman Human Development and Family Sciences major at Texas State University, is an active and engaged civic leader within the campus community. She is involved in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) chapter, university sports, the Honors College, and other roles. The value of civic engagement was instilled in her at a young age and continues to be reflected through her many involvements. Driven by her belief in providing equitable, low-cost opportunities for families within her community, Ms. Auxier strongly advocates breaking down economic barriers in our communities. She has lived that belief by generating support from local businesses through funding to support her organization, Project Get Moving, an organization created by Auxier to provide over 150 children the opportunity to attend a free summer camp regardless of socioeconomic background. By using her membership to organizations, presentations at forums, and continuing her generation of support from local businesses and her community, her goal is to officially register her program as a nonprofit organization to lower the dependency of pay-to-play programs for children. She is a shining example of service for and within one's community.

Personal Statement

My civic leadership journey was sparked by a profound belief in the power of collective action to drive positive change. Witnessing societal challenges and recognizing the potential for improvement, I felt compelled to contribute actively. Inspired by leaders who impacted me and my own experiences, I embarked on my civic leadership path. Through my work in lowering the dependency on pay-to-play organizations, advocating for mental health awareness, and expanding the national bone marrow registry, I have seen firsthand the power that communities have when they come together for change. When people are united through a common mission to improve their own community, not only do they take a step towards meaningful reforms, but they also grow together. This leads to a greater acceptance of each other and increases inclusivity within communities. My civic leadership journey is an ongoing commitment to creating a more just and resilient society, driven by the belief that positive change is achievable through collective effort and thoughtful, inclusive leadership.
