Personal Statement

Growing up in a religious community, I learned early that my empathy can best impact others when put into action as a listening ear and helpful hand. This philosophy followed me into college, where I serve as President of Phi Theta Kappa, a Student Advisory Council member, and a Writing Center Tutor. In my roles, I aim to listen first, speak second, and lead by example, prioritizing community and support services. I have exemplified this by organizing a campus-wide MLK Day of Service, where we made blankets to donate to people in need in our community. Additionally, I am leading a team to create and implement a campus program providing peer-focused support to help students navigate challenges and locate resources. I also engage in Writing Center sessions, assisting students to grow their confidence and writing skills to make a difference in their fields. Learning about the challenges of others and seeking to help in practical ways has fostered my intellectual and personal growth and enabled me to form relationships. I believe being present in each moment and meeting individuals with love and kindness is powerful enough to bridge differences, create communities, and change the world, one person at a time.
