Personal Statement

My passion for social justice was cemented during my final years of high school in Jamaica. The COVID-19 pandemic brought an increase in social disparities experienced by the local homeless population. My concern about these issues led me to volunteer for and later be elected as a project coordinator of the award-winning Street People Liberation Foundation. Writing sponsorship letters and planning donation drives were some of my responsibilities within this role. In thinking about future college and academic pursuits, it became clear that I needed to attend a close-knit university where I could explore the intersection between social justice and business. This is exactly what I found in Adelphi’s International Studies major and Levermore Global Scholars (L.G.S.) program. Since being here, I have been involved in initiatives that support my goal of being a community problem solver. Serving as a Workforce Development intern at the National Urban League and as L.G.S. Community Outreach Officer have been two of my highlights thus far. Being able to connect with organizations such as Glory House has truly been fulfilling. I am sure that my work at Adelphi is a stepping stone to a successful career in international development or business.
