Personal Statement
I entered community organizing as a high schooler in Waukesha County, Wisconsin during the 2020 elections, mobilizing students and canvassing thousands of voters in my hometown. Upon entering UW-Madison, I immersed myself further in student organizing and civic engagement. As the lead intern of BadgersVote, I worked with a passionate intern team to collaborate with various campus organizations, educate students about the importance of voting, and provide the necessary resources to ease student participation in the democratic process. Recognizing the enduring impact of youth engagement on marginalized communities, I joined Chup, Go Vote!, a nonpartisan civic engagement organization focused on the South Asian community. Through Chup, I have created voting resources for the greater South Asian diaspora and collaborated with campuses in Wisconsin to mobilize South Asian students. Desiring to leave a long-term impact on civic engagement at UW-Madison, I co-founded the Student Voters Union, a space for students to have a voice in discussions about voting rights issues and elections on campus. My initiatives center around student voices, emphasizing community engagement, equity, and accessibility. This focus is what I believe makes civic engagement so fulfilling to me and so effective in the Madison community.
