Seeking Co-Facilitators for Spring 2023 Communities of Practice

This year, you can propose your own topic for a Community of Practice!

Communities of Practice (CoPs) provide a unique opportunity for Campus Compact members to join peers across the country to dig deeper into specific areas of engagement practice. Through discussions, joint activities, resource sharing, and relationship building, participants develop a repertoire of resources, skills, and knowledge to use in their practice. Above all, the CoPs provide a great space to communicate and share strategies with like-minded individuals from across the country!

Campus Compact is excited to launch CoPs for spring 2023, and we’re seeking co-facilitators to lead communities focused on a variety of topics of their choice. This is a great opportunity for those who are seeking a national leadership opportunity in the field of civic and community engagement.

Topics for Campus Compact Communities of Practice are limitless—as long as they bring folks together around a common area of inquiry and encourage the following:

  • Continued conversations around civic and community engagement in educational spaces
  •  Discussions of emerging and pressing issues of the moment
  •  Space to collectively imagine new approaches and innovative practices in our field around a specific topic or challenge
  • Support for peers and colleagues interested in earning Campus Compact Community Engagement Professional Credentials
  • Dialogue around recent developments in the field and best practices to approach those changes

When considering a topic for suggestion, feel free to draw inspiration from recent CoPs hosted by Campus Compact:

  • Engaged Research
Engaging in ethical and reciprocal research with communities
  • Anti-Racist Community & Civic Engagement
Examining white supremacy and racism in ourselves and in our practice, and how to undo racism in our work and spheres of influence
  • Tenure and Promotion and the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement
Communicating successes and challenges of engaged scholarship in the Elective Classification for Community Engagement application
  • Assessment & Evaluation
Tracking, monitoring, assessing, evaluating, and improving program outcomes, partnerships, and student learning and success
  • Community-Engaged Learning & Teaching
Facilitating curricular community-engaged learning experiences that are beneficial to students and community
  • Community Partnerships
Cultivating and maintaining high-quality partnerships with community organizations and representatives
  • Equity & Inclusion
Practicing and promoting diversity, equity, anti-racism, and inclusion in engagement work
  • Institutionalizing Engagement
Building the knowledge, skills, and critical commitments to garner support for civic and community engagement as an institutional priority
  • Program Administration
Managing and administering an effective community engagement program

Applying

  • Participation in CoPs is a benefit of Campus Compact membership. Your institution must be a member for you to apply.
  • All CoPs are co-facilitated. If you have a partner in mind, you will be able to nominate someone as part of your application. If you do not have a nomination, we will pair you with someone with similar interests.
  • Campus Compact will notify co-facilitators in January.

Expectations

  • Co-facilitators will collaborate to lead their CoP from January 2023 through April 2023.
  • All co-facilitators are required to attend 1 of 2 orientations (January 12th or January 18th). The orientation will provide an overview of expectations, an introduction to resources provided by Campus Compact, and a review of past CoP agendas. Campus Compact staff will be available to support co-facilitators throughout the semester.
  • Co-facilitators are responsible for organizing meetings for their CoP and responding to reflections and assessments regarding CoPs when requested.
  • Co-facilitators are required to hold 6 meetings between February 15th and April 30th. Co-facilitators set their own meeting schedule with preliminary schedules due to Campus Compact no later than January 12, 2023.
