Matthew Markey is currently in his second year at the University of La Verne, where he is pursuing a degree in Political Science with a minor in History. He is passionately committed to the cause of voter registration and empowering his classmates to raise their voices on critical social issues. Matthew strongly believes that active civic engagement is vital for cultivating a thriving democracy and driving significant change within our communities. By advocating for civic and community engagement, he aims to motivate his fellow students to understand the difference they can make through their participation in the electoral process. He is driven to support solutions that reflect our values and aspirations in shaping the future of our community. Matthew’s efforts remind us all that when we come together and empower one another, we can create meaningful change for our communities.
Personal Statement
As a student ambassador with the Andrew Goodman Foundation, I am dedicated to promoting civic engagement on campus and I have actively worked to increase voter registration and participation among my peers. I believe that empowering individuals to use their voice is one of the most effective ways to address social issues, and I’ve made it my goal to ensure students are informed and motivated to participate in the election process. My efforts stem from a belief that meaningful change begins with participation, and I aim to create spaces where civic responsibility is both accessible and encouraged. I am also focused on providing people the opportunity where they can have meaningful discussions and communicate with people of different viewpoints. My experience working as an ambassador has deepened my drive to lead change by empowering my peers to address the complex social challenges we face.
