From the president

Libby is a passionate leader with a presence that invites the creation of community. She is a co-captain of the dance team, peer mentor for first-year students and student leader in our community service office, MOVE. In the same office, she diligently recruits new volunteers and program leaders, capitalizing on the ability to speak face-to-face through tabling. Through her peer mentor role, Libby aids in perspective building within the classroom, introducing first-year students to the community and culminating the semester with a social impact project. Her strength lies in her welcoming presence and innate relationship building, inviting people in and engaging them in her work.

Among the many efforts Libby has led, the most notable was during National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week in November 2024. As a leader for her MOVE service program, Libby drives volunteers to local agencies to cook, serve, and share a meal with residents. In November, Libby invited residents of transitional housing to campus to share a potluck meal with students. The residents shared their lived experience and the impact that transitional housing has had on their reconciliation with society. She continuously demonstrates the value of service of presence and promotes justice through service.

Personal Statement

I have the privilege of being closely involved with the Mobilization of Volunteer Efforts (MOVE) office on campus. Here, I promote volunteer activities for the campus community to support and participate in. Additionally, I work to ensure volunteer programs are sufficiently staffed with program leaders, ensuring a successful semester. Through the MOVE office, I lead a program that offers home cooked meals and meaningful connection serving a local shelter that provides support for adults experiencing homelessness and an agency that provides transitional housing. Introducing peers to these local organizations aids in bridging the gap between society and individuals facing hardship. In doing so, it works to eliminate harmful labels that society creates. I also coordinated a potluck lunch on campus. There, residents of the local transitional house and members of our campus community came together to enjoy a homemade meal. Residents were able to share their lived experiences and how the transitional home has impacted their lives. This work allows me to bring people together in purposeful ways, a value that extends to every part of my life. I am dedicated to nurturing this passion, not only through my education but as a driving force into my future career.
