Personal Statement
I am passionate about working together with others to create long-term social change. On and off campus, I approach all civic engagement by meeting people where they are, under the assumption that most of the time our shared values can unite us more than our differences may divide us. Through my internship with MarchOnHarrisburg, a statewide organization in Pennsylvania, I work with hundreds of volunteers across Pennsylvania and a small legislative team to draft, lobby for, and pass anti-corruption and pro-democracy policies at the state level. I care deeply about working across all lines of difference – cultural, political, economic, and beyond – to organize everyone from volunteers new to political engagement to experts to create a democracy that works for all of us. As a member of the Haverford community, I am a board member of Haverford Students for Reproductive Health to create a campus environment where students fully understand their reproductive health rights and resources and where Haverford supports students’ reproductive health needs. My experiences with civic engagement during my time at Haverford have inspired me to pursue a career in public interest advocacy, and I hope to gain new skills and insights for my future career through the Newman Civic Fellowship.
