From the president
Isaac Winchester is a highly involved student leader at Arapahoe Community College (ACC). Isaac’s leadership and dedication to supporting his peers are evidenced by his participation in Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS). He serves on the Executive Board for both organizations. As Vice President of NSLS, Isaac has helped the chapter achieve its highest level of member engagement.
Isaac’s commitment to improving the lives of others is exemplified by his involvement in our Student Government Association (SGA). He serves as State Student Advisory Council (SSAC) Representative, and holds the role of SSAC’s Secretary. He ensures the student voice is heard and valued both at ACC and at the state level.
Isaac is seen as a role model and leader by his peers and by our campus community. He consistently uses his leadership skills to mobilize others and advocate for making tangible impacts for our community. Isaac has received recognition at ACC’s Student Awards Ceremony each year for his invaluable contributions. He is not driven by the need for external validation, though, but by the desire to make a positive impact. And it is clear he is succeeding in that goal.
Personal Statement
Advocacy has been an integral part of my identity for as long as I can remember. Throughout my life, I have been repeatedly exposed to abuse and neglect. This forced me to learn to advocate for my peers, my family, and myself from an extraordinarily young age. During a medical emergency when I was eight years old, an abusive guardian refused to provide emergency services with my medical information or history. Consequently, I was unable to be properly treated and nearly lost my life. This experience opened my eyes to realizing that everything I have ever known could be eliminated in an instant at the whim of another. As a result, I take the notion of leaving the people and places I know better than I found them because I know how suddenly they can be lost. Since then, I have engaged in various service activities in an attempt to make the most of this life. Whether organizing essentials for my city's homeless population, advocating for the implementation of menstrual hygiene products at my college, or lobbying for LGBTQ+ rights before Colorado's House of Representatives, I am proud to be a vessel for improving the livelihood of my fellow humans.
