Harry Krafchak is a sophomore at Central Michigan University majoring in political science. Originally from the Detroit area and a graduate of Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, Harry currently serves as the Student Coordinator for Central Civics in the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center. He is also a Democracy Fellow with Campus Vote Project. In these roles, Harry leads nonpartisan initiatives focused on voter registration, civic education, and student engagement. Passionate about building a culture of active citizenship, he works to empower his peers to participate meaningfully in democracy and advocates for a campus environment where diverse perspectives are welcomed and celebrated.
Personal Statement
My name is Harry Krafchak, I am a current sophomore at Central Michigan University studying political science! I grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from Crestwood High School in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. My current work in civic engagement includes my capacity as Student Coordinator for Central Civics in the Mary Ellen Brandell Volunteer Center, a Democracy Fellow for Campus Vote Project, and various other nonpartisan works! As the student coordinator for nonpartisan civic engagement at Central Michigan University, I take on a diverse role that fuels my passion for empowering citizens. My focus is on leading initiatives that boost voter registration and turnout, ensuring students are ready to engage fully in our democratic processes. Beyond just elections, I create opportunities for students to participate meaningfully in social and political movements, amplifying their voices on issues that matter to them. I am dedicated to nurturing a campus environment where a variety of beliefs and ideologies can not only coexist but flourish—ensuring that every capable member of our community plays an active democratic role. I believe that active citizenship is the foundation of a strong democracy, a principle I advocate for relentlessly. My aim is to inspire students to recognize and utilize their power as citizens, confidently shaping the future of our nation. In my career, I strive to be a symbol of honesty and integrity—values I practice every day in my actions and leadership on campus. By promoting a culture of participation and accountability, I hope to create a lasting legacy of civic pride and democratic engagement at Central Michigan University and beyond.
