Personal Statement
I’m truly grateful for my community service involvement from a young age. My first experiences were with Boy Scouts, where I spent time at local volunteer events working on friend’s projects. My time concluded with my Eagle Scout project, which showed me the scale that I could apply my leadership skills and passion, totaling over 200 volunteer hours towards the construction of a flag-retirement burning pit, podiums utilized during the retirement ceremony, a pit cover, and a donation box to collect worn-out flags. Outside of scouting, I’ve served in my church, school, and community, in activities ranging from city-wide trash cleanups to peer tutoring to community meals. I also attended Boys’ State, uniting with other like-minded kids to help solve problems in our community, which sparked my interest in local politics and led to a position working for the mayor of my hometown. In college, I serve on the student senate and am the Vice-President of WooServe, the campus service organization. Both of these have been opportunities to engage with both students and the larger community that we are in, and a place to start bigger conversations about making a difference in the communities that we share.
