Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC) is the first nationwide AmeriCorps program solely dedicated to campus-based, community-led climate action. CCAC builds the capacity of campuses and their community partners to create change that leads to increased energy efficiency and improvements for at-risk ecosystems by implementing local solutions for underserved households and communities.
CCAC is focused on supporting campus/community partnerships that:
- Raise awareness and address urgent climate issues in underserved communities
- Lower energy use and energy costs for low-income households
- Improve at-risk ecosystems in underserved areas
- Support and improve green job pathways

How it works
CCAC AmeriCorps Members:
- Host community environmental education events
- Conduct home energy assessments, including home energy assistance referrals
- Implement low-tech home energy interventions to help advance public knowledge and increase motivation to conserve energy and reduce carbon emissions.
- Implement projects in underserved communities that enhance ecosystem health and leverage local volunteers to support CCAC environmental stewardship activities.
Proud partner of AmeriCorps and the American Climate Corps
Campus Compact is proud to partner with AmeriCorps and the American Climate Corps to present the Campus Climate Action Corps program.
History of CCAC
CCAC is built on the foundation laid by Maine Campus Compact's signature climate justice programs, the Maine Partnership for Environmental Stewardship (MPES) and Maine Energy AmeriCorps Programs (MEAP).
These programs ran from 2017-2021 with AmeriCorps members creating positive change for underserved communities throughout Maine. In the Maine program, AmeriCorps members' projects included conducting basic home energy assessments and building window insulating inserts for low-income households. CCAC aims to expand this model to include more services for low-income households in all regions throughout the country.
