Mark Thomas leads KPMG’s Education and Non-Profit Practice in the Western United States, and also serves as the National Client Leader for KPMG’s Education and Not-for-Profit Practice. Thomas has been with KPMG for 33 years, serving clients throughout the West. Thomas serves on KPMG’s National Quality Performance Review Team, a team that performs independent reviews of audits performed by other offices and firms.
Thomas dedicates 100 percent of his time to serving public universities, non-profit academic and research institutions, and other exempt organizations. Thomas led the team that conducted the first-ever audit of the California State University, the largest university system in the country. In addition to educational institutions, Thomas’ clients include significant non-profit organizations and a wide variety of 501(c)(3) organizations.
Thomas is a regular speaker on issues pertaining to the higher education and not-for-profit industries and has taught at the university level on related accounting and auditing issues. He is an award-winning national instructor for KPMG, teaching nationwide on a variety of topics, including education and not-for-profit accounting and auditing issues.
