Campus Climate Action Corps expands for the 2024-2025 academic year

Campus Climate Action Corps enters its second year expanding to twenty different host sites across eleven states.

Campus Compact is proud to announce that its Campus Climate Action Corps (CCAC) program will expand to further institutions and states across the country for the 2024-2025 academic year, bringing more communities needed environmental sustainability capacity and resources. CCAC is a Campus Compact AmeriCorps program now in its second year of operation. It launched in the 2023-2024 academic year to build the capacity of campuses and their community partners to implement local solutions for underserved households and communities that lead to increased energy efficiency and improved environmental sustainability.

For the 2024-2025 academic year, CCAC will partner with 20 college and university host sites across 11 states. Included in our nationwide efforts is a new partnership with AmeriCorps Connecticut, which will expand CCAC programming to 8 host sites in the state with the support of 40 AmeriCorps members. Each host site will support teams of CCAC AmeriCorps members to host community environmental education events and ecosystem health projects, conduct basic home energy assessments, and implement low-tech home energy interventions to reduce costs and carbon emissions for low-income households.

Host sites:

  • Colby-Sawyer College (New London, NH)
  • College of the Atlantic (Bar Harbor, ME)
  • Eastern Connecticut State University (Windham, CT)
  • Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw, GA)
  • Lasell University (Newton, MA)
  • Miami University (Oxford, OH)
  • Neighborhood Housing Service of New Haven (New Haven, CT)
  • Northern Illinois University (DeKalb, IL)
  • St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY)
  • Stetson University (DeLand, FL)
  • University of Connecticut (Hartford and Storrs, CT)
  • University of Maine (Orono, ME)
  • University of Saint Joseph (West Hartford, CT)
  • Washington University in St. Louis (St. Louis, MO)
  • Weber State University (Ogden, UT)

The Campus Climate Action Corps service year kicked off in October with a 3-day, in-person training to prepare our national AmeriCorps members to engage with communities and make a difference for our planet.

“Now more than ever, we need to take concrete action to protect our natural resources,” said Sally Solvenski, program director of Campus Climate Action Corps. “We are proud to expand Campus Climate Action Corps to additional underserved communities across the country, and know that our AmeriCorps members will make a difference for community members, the environment, and the future of our planet.”

For other campuses interested in getting involved in this program, we are actively recruiting colleges and university partners to serve as future host sites. Learn more at compact.org/ccac.
