Hunter Caudillo, a fourth year student at the University of Central Oklahoma, is a very active student in the community engagement activities hosted through our Volunteer and Service Learning Center. Hunter is a constant champion for student engagement in our surrounding community, around the country and around the world. For the last three years, Hunter has taken leadership roles in her sorority and our Big Event student organization. She has used these roles to challenge her peers to get involved with their community and elsewhere. She is known campus-wide as a champion for service and advocate for community involvement.
I first became involved in serving the community through my mission trip to Africa as a teenager. Once I got to college, I found three organizations that have allowed me to give back to community while serving others. The first organization I started serving through is Miss Amazing, an organization geared towards giving girls and women with disabilities the opportunity to build self confidence and self esteem. The second organization I serve through is Coreluv, an organization that provides orphans in Haiti and India the six basic needs through the luv of Jesus. The third organization is Big Event, an organization on campus that gives back to the local community through a day of service. These three organizations have given the opportunity to not only give back to my community, but they have also given me the chance to bring awareness to different issues around me that are close to my heart.
