Cassidy Pruitt is a senior at Averett University, pursing a degree in both accounting and marketing with a minor in communication studies. Over the past three years, she has been a member of the Love Danville Higher Education Council. As a member, she has made efforts to show members of the community the hidden parts of Danville. Cassidy is currently working on outreach programs to help the lower income elderly who cannot afford or access healthcare in the Danville and Pittsylvania County communities. Working at a rural pharmacy for three years, she has observed several seniors negotiating tough calls with necessary medicines and affordability. She empathizes with the tug of war between meeting health and financial needs, and feels compelled to help those people struggling with this decision.
In life, we are always so busy with work, family, school, and friends; volunteering is often left out. For me, volunteering is vital to not only the community, but for the individual as well. I have always made it a goal to take time out of my schedule to volunteer in the community to help make a positive influence. After working at a small-town pharmacy for a number of years, it has developed a personal passion in me to provide proper healthcare to all seniors. Through the Newman Civic Fellowship, I, along with other community members, hope to grow and learn how to provide low to no cost medical treatment and care for everyone.
