Catalog Description: Examination, application, and analysis of the methods and benefits of the kinesthetic teaching style; including educational theory, purpose, and practice. Students will conduct research projects that involve designing, developing, and implementing psychomotor, cognitive, and affective skill building lesson plans using kinesthetic methods. Art on the Edge program: ceramics students work with homeless children

In the spring of 1997, an Introduction to Ceramics class, taught by Lisa Lynes at North Idaho College, enlisted students as tutors in a local program called Art on the Edge. Through the program students in the class worked in an after-school setting with children living in the local St. Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter. Students helped the children create original ceramic projects which were later fired by the arts department at the college. Project New Urban Arts: supporting and showing youth art

Project New Urban Arts , a nonprofit organization started by Tyler Denmead, a student at Brown University, provides two kinds of service. First, it provides a service to youth at area high schools. The project provides high school students with free studio space and art supplies, as well as lessons from working artists from the local community. Second, it provides a service to the community, turning storefront space that it has bought and turning it into display space for the art that high school students and their mentor artists create. Introduction/Background This seminar will be the final of three annual fall courses addressing the revitalization of Syracuse’s Near Eastside Neighborhood. Students and faculty will work hand-in-hand with Eastside Neighbors in Partnership (ENIP), a community development organization that works with a severely challenged neighborhood on the city’s east side.
