A proven educator and leader with decades of experience, MacCormack served as Chancellor of UMass Dartmouth for 13 years. There, MacCormack oversaw a major transformation of the school that included growing enrollment to nearly 10,000 students, increasing research funding from $7 million to $26 million annually, attracting significantly higher private support and expanding facilities on campus and throughout the SouthCoast region. She also oversaw the historic opening in 2010 of the UMass School of Law, the state’s first public law school.

MacCormack retired as Chancellor at the end of the 2011–12 academic year. Before her appointment as Chancellor in September 1999, MacCormack served for 12 years in senior leadership positions at UMass Boston. She continues to serve as Chair of the SouthCoast Hospitals Board and is a Director of the Bristol County Savings Bank. She is also devoting time to a new book on transformative leadership.
